“AkitaBox” – what a weird name, right? What does it mean? And what the heck does it have to do with facilities management?
On the surface, it may seem a little strange that our name isn’t more obviously related to facilities management. But there’s a method to our madness. We wanted a name that would do more than tell you what we make (industry-leading facility optimization software). As we keep evolving and bringing new innovations to the market, our name had to be something more than just a product.
Instead, our name reflects who we are and what our company stands for. After sifting through hundreds and hundreds of possible names, we landed on the perfect one: AkitaBox.
But what does “AkitaBox” mean? It’s a combination of the words “Akita” and “box.” Let us explain.
The “Akita” in AkitaBox
The Akita is a Japanese guard dog known for being strong, intelligent, hard working, and a loyal companion.
Like the Akita, our software is an intelligent tool providing location-based, asset-level data to inform all aspects of facilities management. Facilities managers, operations and finance leaders, as well as architecture-engineering-construction firms see us as a dependable partner in assessing and optimizing the operation of their buildings and assets.
Our software is a strong, multi-faceted system for managing work orders, capital planning, facility condition assessments, inspections, and more. It brings all of your facilities data into one place and protects it from getting lost or becoming degraded over time.
And beyond all that, who doesn’t like dogs? We sure do. In fact, many AkitaBoxers both past and present are proud dog owners. So having a dog in our name just makes sense.
The “Box” in AkitaBox
What do you think of when you think of a box? You probably picture a place to hold and protect multiple items in one place. That’s exactly what AkitaBox does. It’s a safe home for all of your facilities data.

In addition, the box represents how we think about innovation. We’re always looking for ways to enhance and improve what happens inside the FM box by thinking outside the box. Clever, right? The “box” concept is so important to our identity, that our logo actually has a box shape. See?
