Celebrating 10 Years of AkitaBox

Looking Back and Looking Ahead at AkitaBox’s 10th Anniversary

August 7, 2025 – Today marks a decade since AkitaBox began its journey to transform how facilities are managed. From our humble beginnings in Madison, Wisconsin, we’ve grown to become an industry leader, now managing over 500 million square feet of facilities across educational, healthcare, government, and commercial real estate sectors throughout the United States.

“What started as a way to bridge the technology gap between construction and operations has grown into something I’m genuinely proud of every single day,” says Derek Blackmore, President of AkitaBox. “Not because we’ve won awards or hit revenue targets, but because we’re actually making a difference in how buildings serve people.”

Founded by four visionaries who identified a critical disconnect between sophisticated construction technology and outdated facility operations, AkitaBox developed a solution to transform mountains of paper blueprints into actionable digital data. This vision has evolved into a comprehensive platform that enables organizations to tell their building’s complete story—its history, current condition, and projected future.

Our suite of cloud-based solutions empowers facility teams to streamline operations, reduce risk, and drive mission-critical initiatives. The company’s software helps organizations achieve operational excellence, maintain compliance standards, and make smarter capital investments through data-driven decision making.

“Our mission remains beautifully simple: align stakeholders throughout the facility lifecycle to make better decisions through data,” adds Blackmore. “When we do that right—when we connect all those dots—something magical happens.”

Looking ahead, AkitaBox continues to innovate with solutions for both building owners and AEC firms. Leading architecture, engineering, and construction firms are using our tools to deliver enhanced value through facility condition assessments and other services, while building owners and operators benefit from having maintenance, operations, compliance, and capital planning all organized in one place.

Here’s to the next 10 years of solving real problems, building amazing things, and continuing to transform how facilities data works for people—from the boiler room to the boardroom.
